For best results, send only files that have been created in applications compatible with the list below. We work on Apple Macintosh hardware, using the following as standard.
QuarkXPress 5 (not QuarkXPress Passport). If you use a newer version, please save 'backwards' as version 4. If you're sending an EPS, it must have all the fonts used embedded, or be supplied as an editable document. A copy of your XPress Preferences file used for the job should also be included.
Illustrator 7. Not Illustrator 8 unless you save 'backwards' as version 7. All fonts must be converted to paths. The file should be saved as an editable EPS or as a document.
Photoshop. Any of Photoshop's standard formats (EPS, TIFF, BMP, JPEG et cetera) are suitable. Use CMYK for colour files, not RGB. We will require resolution at 300 pixels per inch (ppi) for colour or greyscale, or 1000 dpi for lineart, at actual size.
Freehand 8 (if you use a newer version please save 'backwards' as version 7). All fonts must be converted to paths. The file should be saved as an editable EPS or as a document.
PDF (for experts only). Only if generated with pre-press settings and embedded fonts. Don't use the default settings, which are only suitable for use on the Web, soft proofig et cetera.
Internet Images are nearly always rejected. They tend to be of very poor quality for printing purposes.
Whichever application you are using, colour should be spacified as 'Process Separation' or equivalent.
Your advertisement artwork file should be accompanied by a laser proof of the artwork (preferably a colour proof), and any disk should be clearly labelled with the customer's name, publication and date of insertion of the ad. State also whether the disk is to be collected.
